Museum Staff
The museum has over 400 full and part time staff positions
and we work with more than 1,500 volunteers.

The museum staff is organized into several operating areas:

Experience Development and Family Learning:
The Experience Development and Family Learning division focuses their efforts on the core of our mission business. The group is comprised of several departments that function as a team to develop, design and produce and operate exhibits and experiences for the diverse audiences of the museum. Once an exhibit/experience is planned/produced it is this group's responsibility to interpret, extend and connect the exhibit/experience to our many different audiences. Our Collections department provides the artifacts, materials, and specimen that make our experiences transformational and relevant to youth of all ages. Educational programs, family learning and school services are also housed within this group.

Marketing and External Relations:
The Marketing and External Relations team holds responsibility for the museum's relationships with an expansive array of audiences to realize the museum's mission, vision and goals. This group includes the marketing, community initiatives, public and media relations, research, public policy, retail and rentals and events. The staff in these areas are largely responsible for effectively communicating the museum's messages to its key stakeholders: our visitors, members, donors, volunteers, legislators, neighbors and peer institutions.

Development:
The development team is responsible for securing the precious resources necessary to advance the mission of the museum. As a nonprofit we rely heavily on the donated resources of generous individuals, corporations, foundations and grants. The team of professional and volunteer fund-raisers works with valued members and donors to assist us in this effort.

Finance:
The Finance group is led by the Chief Financial Officer. The staff within the Finance area work to manage, project, allocate and account for the museum’s precious financial resources. They are responsible for all accounting, finance and investment functions.

Operations:
The Operations group is led by the Vice President of Operations. The staff within this area provides the operational support and staffing for the museum. The Visitor Relations department (box office, call center, visitor services and arrival services), Interactive and Information Technology department, Security, Safety and Risk Management department, Facility Operations, food service and construction project oversight are all part of this team.

Human Resources:
This group is led by the Vice President of Human Resources. The staff within this area are responsible for hiring, nurturing and retaining great staff and volunteers. The museum has a professional development department which is responsible for the training of staff volunteers and interns. The HR and Organizational Development group is also responsible for the adult volunteer and intern program administration. The museum’s legal department is housed within this division, as well.
